Substance Abuse and Your Brain
Brain Coaching for Optimal Learning
Come and learn how to apply principles of neuroscience for promoting optimal brain development. Emphasized will be the impact of security, play, fun, language, music, touch, nature, nutrition, movement and social interaction on how the brain works.
School Brain Buddies (for staff)
This interactive workshop for staff offers practical implications and applications of brain research to help teachers, support staff, bus drivers, custodians, and playground supervisors put it into practice. Brain friendly strategies will be modeled and adapted by participating staff for their own use. This workshop will be designed to fit your schedule for 1 to 3 hours, with research and best practices for elementary, middle school and/or high school staff.
Classroom Brain Buddies
Working with individual classroom groups, brain friendly strategies will be modeled while students learn to communicate and manage their emotions, and anticipate the consequences of their choices. This option includes classroom presentations from 20 minutes to 1 hour depending on grade level with ten minutes for transitions between presentations.
(Any school booking Classroom Brain Buddies presentations before September will include a free 1 hour School Brain Buddies workshop for staff.)
Kids Brain Buddies (large group assembly for students)
Children will learn about their brains, the way they work and how to keep them healthy in an assembly (45 minutes for primary, intermediate, and/or middle school).
Win-Win Self Discipline with Peace Place (for staff)
Brain-friendly, student focused problem prevention is the foundation for this program.
Children can learn to identify, solve and repair their own problems on the playground and in the classroom. Basic information will be shared in a 1.5 hour orientation workshop with additional options available for training and implementation.
Play Fair (for staff)
Could your students and playground benefit from a student leadership program? Successful examples will be described and start-up tips will be provided in this presentation which will be designed to meet your scheduling needs ranging from one to two hours in length.
Classroom Memory Boosters: (focus on student learning)1.5 hours
Using five memory pathways, teachers will brainstorm ways to enhance their students’ learning in their classroom. Brain basics and current research will be summarized as a foundation for their work.
Brain Development: Supporting 3-5 Year Olds and their Parents 1.5 hours
The early years last forever! This workshop shows child care providers how to make a positive difference for young children and their parents. Emotional development depends on these very important relationships. Participants will learn about eight things every brain needs, and how to provide for them.
Leaping into Long Term Memory (focus on student learning) 1 or 3 hours
School staff will learn to use brain mechanics and five brain pathways to support student learning. This is an experiential workshop showing rather than telling participants how to use the pathways. They will develop activities that will fit into their own school setting
Making the Most of Your Memory (focus on adult memory) 3 hours
Forget anything lately? Do I need to worry? Is there anything I can do to improve my memory? Recent research shows that it is possible to build new brain connections and improve long term memory. Participants will leave with a better understanding of how our memory works as we mature.

Family Brain Buddies
Children’s brain development background will help parents to set reasonable expectations for their children. Interaction suggestions will be shared and its importance supported by research.
Music and the Brain
Originally scheduled through Family Resource Center for Eau Claire, this 1 hour workshop offers a brief brain development introduction followed by interactive musical activities to demonstrate things parents and young children can do together to boost brain development and build relationships. Teen Brain Buddies Originally scheduled through B.R.A.I.N. Team for Eau Claire County, recent brain research helps parents understand some reasons for their children’s behavior. Changing relationships are challenging for both parents and teens. Supportive suggestions will be provided in this

Spiritual Brain Buddies (for students)
Large group presentation for primary, intermediate, middle school or confirmation students will share research and suggested activities for optimal brain health with a scriptural focus. Presentation will be designed for your location to meet your group’s schedule ranging from 30 minutes-1.5 hour.
Spiritual Brain Buddies (for parents)
Scripture and brain research will be combined to help parents understand and support their children’s growth toward God’s plan for their lives. This interactive presentation can be planned to run from 1-2 hours, including breaks.
Spiritual Brain Buddies (for students and parents together)
Interactive workshop will integrate scripture while modeling communication, and the importance of “down time” and for students and parents. This workshop runs for two hours, including breaks.

Sandra Stanton served as counselor for Kunming International Academy April-June 2005. She will share stories, photos and memorabilia from her experience.
